The statue was much to likeness of a large red deer, point slightly and strangely bent more inward that up and outward. For moments the strange carving of the animal was as still as such described, but as the breeze began to travel swiftly down the side of the mountain it pulled at the red toned pelt, locks pulled tightly against his skin. After that he came more alive, large auds twitched with anticipation and accepted the safe scented breeze that only carried the smell of month old wild cat, long gone. Nodding the stag's tail flicked and he pulled himself a bit onto the hill that led up to the mountain. Eyes caught hold of a patch of dandelions and slowly made his way over, savoring moments alone.

Lately the herd had been too quiet, as if silently mourning over the oncoming season. At this time his antlers were full grown and the velvet long rubbed off. Everywhere he went there seemed to be remnants of someone's antler remains. Sniffing from velvet shreds near a tree he moved closer to the flower and started to eat their heads, chewing them with delicacy. He kept his mind and audits open for the sound of a predator or even a herd member.

Black-gloved legs carried the doe's elegant frame through the timber, cloven hooves silent even among the vast swath of foliage that littered the ground. Her ears fanned to attention, her regal neck arching slowly downward as she pawed through leaves and browse, snuffling for her favorite treat. Dandelions were becoming more and more scarce as the seasons progressed. But one could still locate them if they knew where to look.

Her breath sighed across the yellow blossom and she snatched it up quickly, leaving the bitter stem for late-coming scavengers. Chewing slowly on the soft bud, the white-tail let her thoughts wander, free to sprint among the hurdles of her mind. The Hills were quiet, but still plagued by the vaguest buzz of life and change, like the flicker of a dragonfly's wings. The breeze spoke of the autumn to come, and the possibility of transformation. New beginnings, new obstacles. After all, when a certain amount of time has passed, one could only begin to wonder when these miraculous things would end. For surely one day their enemies would tire of the peace that nestled over the valley like a mother robin to her nest.

Thistle whuffed and swung her head up. Balderdash. She couldn’t imagine such occurrences as would disturb her peaceful haven... Or maybe she just didn’t want to ponder on such things. Nonetheless, her grazing commenced. Obsidian nose shuffled through the debris, and she became suddenly aware that she’d struck a gold mine of dandelions.

Except that a lot of them had already been eaten. And that made her scowl, proud head elevating to find the culprit. Who just happened to be her Captain.
“Hah! Hogging all the dandelions, eh? Well, we’ll just see about that...”
Izzy’s head dove with all the swiftness of a hawk on the hunt, teeth plucking a mouthful of flowers and a few leaves, until she rather resembled a chipmunk.
“Ow bow at?” ‘How about that?’ Her mahogany eyes were triumphant, merrily alight in the company of a fellow Outrider, and little caring to keep appearances anymore. She was no stick in the mud to turn up her snout at a bit of fun. Although, there was something a tad unappealing about a dribble of flower-speckled spit creeping from the corner of her mouth.

Ah well. A huge gulp heralded the moment when she swallowed. Raising a foreleg, she rubbed her face along her knee to remove any excess and grinned playfully at Rannoch. Change indeed... What a load of manure. Nothing could bring them down.

A Captain doesn't startle easily, unless of course, it's the queen of Dragonfly Hill. The stag flinched as she started to speak, a slow smile heading to his mug and chuckled as her looked her over with a mouth full of sunshine hued petals. Shaking his head he cleared his throat and found a pine cone and nudged it. Yuck- but, it was a start.

Nose stuck up with a playful evil gaze and chewed off a couple of hard petals from the brown oval and looked at her, wincing each time he chewed.

"Mmmmm, I don't need you dandie-flowers. Pine cones keep us Cap'tens fit and nit."

He spoke after painfully swallowing one of his least favourite foods. Flashing a nervous smile he shook his head at the silly doe and gave the cone a secret glare of distaste. Bark, now, at least that was better- but as it was Thistle's favourite, it was also Rannoch's top foods he preferred, and who wouldn't?

"What are you doing 'bout here anyways ladyship? What if I hadn't been here? A cougar coulda gotten off with you, then where would the herd of been?"

Well, he wasn't really exaggerating, but if you really did know the leaderess, you'd know she was tougher than the random picked doe from out of the wild. It wasn't like him to flirt, really his words weren't, but it was his way of showing he cared. And he did, did care for the herd and Thistle, it was why he had been chosen of course.

The doe let her ears relax against her finely sculpted head, craning her neck with easy grace to examine the pinecone. Oh, surely he wasn't going to eat that? Except he was. Every crunch made her wrinkle her nose, an absurd grin blossoming upon her visage.
"My good sir, it pains me to watch you eat that. You are surely welcome to share the last of the dandelions," she chuckled, her voice ringing with soft, bell-like undertones.

Hooves shifted forward as she half turned to observe the Silverside Mountains, watching the sunlight glance off of slopes already capped with snow. An ear flickered at the Captain's words and she harrumphed lightly. "What, those mangy fleabags? I'd turn a cougar on its ear in an instant. Probably all frozen, anyway, if they prowl around up there." She shivered at the thought. Winters were harsh enough on the ground, much more so in the barren mountaintops. She wondered, though, about the state of the herd. Or what was left of it. Their numbers didn't thrive as they had before, and she hoped the promise of the coming winter would drive vagrant ruminants to seek adequate shelter, perhaps within the boundaries of Hill territory.

She wondered distantly if their rival herd was in as much a slump for activity. The Misted Glen had fallen under new leadership, not that she cared to wander so far just to get a name. When winter had come and gone, so would begin the struggle for expanding herd lands, to find new places of untouched growth for their clans to graze. The choicest places were on the opposite side of the Rosewood, closer to the Glen than Thistle liked. Eventually, their embassy would assemble to perhaps negotiate an agreement, and the Dragonfly Queen could only hope there would be more stags to back her by that time.

The thought of a doe leading a herd into new lands, or even into battle, might have seemed preposterous. Thistle held the element of surprise in great reverence, and always tended to take a turn toward the unexpected. She was a strategist, and enough of a fighter to carry out her plans when necessary.

Blowing softly, her breath hung visible in the air a moment.
"So peaceful... Too peaceful. Do you think it's the cold, or could it be an omen?" She wasn't superstitious, didn't dabble in luck and chance, but the idea still lingered in her head like the taste of bitter persimmons.

" My lady, do not worry about any omens."

A small fallow deer stepped towards them slowly. White legs brushes against a small bush. Nodding her head in a slight bow to the captain and her leader, she gave them a soft smile. Blue eyes glittered softly, as she looked down at a small dandelion at her hooves.

Giving a slight squeal of delight, she lowered her head and plucked the dandelion from the ground. Closing her eyes, with a big grin on her face, she began to munch loudly, making yum sounds with each crunch.

Yeah, it was a total attitude change. At first, she was serious and very adult, now she was acting like a fawn that found the first dandelion of spring! She always seemed to have those moments.

Swallowing the rest of the dandelion, she opened her eyes and remembered she was not alone. Coughing lightly, she brushed her light tan and white fur against a small tree and tried to act like it never happened.

Lowering her head, she began to sniff the ground lightly, looking for anymore sweets. Pushing over a leaf and spotted another dandelion. Giving a soft squeal, she looked up at the others for a moment hoping they didn't hear.

Plucking the dandelion, she gave a soft grin to the others. Pieces of vegetation sticking from her teeth, she gave a loud gee sound, before munching the dandelion until it was completely gone. Turning to Thristle, she nodded lightly.

" Do we have any major plans today, M'lady?"

as the elegant doe walked into a clearing she looked around for the rightful owners of this territory. she saw no one so she went over to a rose bush that had no thorns and bleated her happiness. she emeadietly started eating the head of the roses. she heard a low growl and turned around to see a mountain lion watching her. she snorted, showing that she would fight. the mountain lion pounced but the doe just turned around and kikicked out with her hind legs, hitting the mountain lion right on the head. the lion ran turned and ran whimpering. the doe bleated loudly "don't ever mess with selina!". the doe snorted in annoyance. selina continued to munch on delicious roses, now back to her reagular calm self.the doe rubbed her side aginst a tree to reach a very iritating itch. once she was finished she continued on her way. after a while of traveling she heard voices. she quickly hurried towards the voices. once she was in the bushs right next to the clearing she peer out and saw one deer (a buck) eating a pinecone.she continued to watch and listen. she found out that the handsome buck eating the pinecone to show off was the captian, while the female was the queen. she then saw another doe walk into the clearing and could emeadietly tell this was a sentry. "but there could always be two sentries, right?" selina thought to herself. she then came out of the bushes and said "hello, my name is selina i am a white-tailed deer. i have come here to join your herd and become a sentry. i hope i am welcome". she turned her head towards the queen, "may I join M'lady?" selina asked with a bow of her head and waited for the queens answer.
